My driver's door 3-wire regulator is bad.

I need a either:
a good 3-wire driver's door regulator with or without motor
or a good 2-wire regulator motor preferably with the regulator.

If someone has a completed 3-wire to 2-wire relay harness I'd be interested.

The two wire regulators are still available new, and there was a technical service bulletin issued in March of 1988 that explains how to to the conversion from 3 wire regulators to 2 wire regulators. It's under repair work order number 72/7. It gives the part numbers for everything you need and how/where to mount the extra parts. The harness for the conversion wasn't ever something that was available because it had to be made up on the spot.

I spoke with Tom Hanson. He doesn't have the motor for the 2 wire regulator.

I found one on eBay. Get OEM, those $100 Chinese versions are worthless.

Stanford, I have a 69 parts car here and it has the 3 wire windows. I will check and see if I have a good regulator out of it.

I wasn't talking about the motor. I was making reference to the regulator itself. Good used motors with the two wires can be found on the regular in our community an/or on ebay and the like.

Stanford, if you are talking about the regulator, itself, order a new one from Tom. I think these are cast aluminum but subject to metal fatigue. They bend over time but break when you try to straighten them.

The aftermarket regulator I purchased from these folks for less than $50 delivered is galvanized steel and better quality than the OEM . . . FWIW

The picture in the link you included shows the regulator to still have a cast aluminum framework. Is what you received different than what is in the picture?

I bought a similar regulators for my W108 the casting were so poor that they were cracked into several pieces just from shipping.

Here is the fix I did, taking the good brand new gears from the broken cast one and putting into the old steel frame.

I too was skeptical, but I figured for $49 I'll take a chance. The regulator I received was well made and in fact, it appeared equal to or perhaps better than the original. That's all I recall. The original failed where most fail, the last 3 or 4 gear teeth worn at the end of the up cycle.

I think I need to clarify something here, as I'm somewhat confused by the responses. The original two wire regulators were always made with a cast aluminum frame, and the regulator arm part with the teeth on it hat always wear off was always some sort of steel. As AGSilver stated the regulator arm part always wears the teeth off on the top part, but the cast aluminum framework has tendency to crack at the mounting points where the rubber bushings are, as well. From the responses, I was under the impression that the regulator arm part with the teeth on it were made from cast aluminum....which would last about a week if that were the case. I have high hopes that the aftermarket ones that RUMB and AG Silver bought have regulator arm parts that are made out of much harder steel than the original ones. If so, all the merrier!

Let us know if you're as satisfied as I was with the aftermarket regulator.

Steve, if I ever have a chance/need to buy another regulator I certainly will. I can't get ANY of my W100 or W109 customers to buy anything as of late.....the majority won't even pay for an oil change lately. It's almost as if they won't consider it unless it's free. :/ So very disconcerting.
