I'm trying to rebuild a euro spec 350 engine (116.985 K-jet). This is the european spec high compression version (pistons are flat, with valve pockets cut in). I need first oversize pistons ideally, and I have had no joy from Mercedes themselves, or from Mahle of K.S.(std, 1st and second oversize are all NLA).

Can anyone recommend a piston maufacturer that I could go to?

I have a used set from a euro engine if you dont have any luck with the new units...mine are flat with the valve cuts in them....they came from a 116.980 engine.

Ryan,
Justin's cousin gets pistons made on a regular basis by a firm in the USA. They are for drag cars and regular applications. He rebuilds motors. I will see him on Tuesday evening and can ask him for contact details if that would be helpful to you.

I would check with Mahle and see if they are, in fact, available from them in the aftermarket again. I looked up the Mahle catalog online and it shows a part number for the 3.5 pistons (and many others). If you need to go custom, JE Pistons in California is a well known manufacturer. The problem with non OE pistons is that they don't have the steel band cast into the aluminum like the OE Mahle pieces. This means they will need more piston to bore clearance and will make a racket with piston slap. The OE piston clearance was TIGHT, as the OE pistons didn't change dimensions as much under heat and pressure.

Good luck on your search.

Chris

Thanks for your help guys. We took a flyer with another donor car, rusty, but seemed mechanically sound. Stripped the engine and we have recovered a set of 8 pistons in as good a condition as one could reasonably hope for. So the original block has been sleeved, and the bottom end is assembled now.
