I suspect that the rules at the time required full, "factory", interiors.....hense the cheapest, lightest seats etc. All these cars pictured were built to race and not neccessarily for the road. As Art has previously stated, (MB were not averse to massarging/bending the rules); NO production 6.3 block can actually be bored to 6.8 litres....

If it is the Waxenberger/Ahrens car, it is NOT Wax driving it - far too short even allowing for the funny seat. Art |

Art, I was thinking about the lower pic. The top pic is clearly the #5 Aaltonen/Glemser car. Ironically, it was Glemser in a Ford Capri that beat the red AMG car for the win at Spa in 1971. |

I looked ar an "Ex-M189" 300SEL here in Melbourne a few months back, that had legitimate factory paperwork, explaining that it had been a "6.3 test car" then had the 6.3 removed, a 3.5 installed, then sold to a private buyer...allegedly, he was a German Engineer in Melbourne, who had spent some time in Germany "with some of his old Engineer buddies that worked at Benz"???????

the first one was built from a car that had been sent back after an accident for examination. I wonder if you get some more info on that car?

Clearly an upholsterer took a car with "clubsessel" style velour, and tried to replicate the pattern in leather. You can see that the door panels are still velour. |

Some high resolution pictures at Spa Francorchamps are already send in to Anthony Long for eventual using in the Lode Star
interior belonging to that one above:

Now turns out that there is build an second "rote Sau", which is partial different from the earlier. That second car has french wallnut dashwood and missing the "plastic rail" on the wood. Also the second one has headrests on the front seats. It is build from an US-car. Vin now also known for the registery.

Which remark was that? . According to what I have heard, the first 300SEL with a 6.3 was a near new car that had been returned to the factory for evaluation and repair after an accident. The engine was placed into it to see how it would work, after hours . As it was Waxls Birthday recently it was mentioned on the MVC website, and a short history of some of his M100 powered projects was listed including the W113 .
